Obituary for Christine A Sczerbak

Christine Ann Scserbak entered eternal life on Saturday – September 26, 2020. Born on August 26, 1950 in Passaic, New Jersey; she was baptized on September 17, 1950 at Most Sacred Heart R. C. Church. She was a life-long resident of the Borough of Wallington. Christine was the daughter of Violet Zielny and Michael Scserbak, and the younger sister of John. She graduated from Most Sacred Heart Grammar School in Wallington and later from the Felician Sisters’ girls high school of the Immaculate Conception in Lodi, New Jersey. Christine worked for many years at Popular Club Plan in Garfield, NJ and later as a receptionist at Most Sacred Heart Church. Christine was a member of the Most Sacred Heart Rosary Confraternity, The Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W., and was active as a troop leader in the Girl Scouts of America. Christine enjoyed traveling on many parish trips with friends and parishioners. She cherished her membership at Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Wallington and Saint Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cathedral in Passaic. She was very proud of her mother’s Polish heritage and equally proud of her father’s Rusin, Byzantine, Greek-Catholic roots. Christine was a gifted Eastern-European folk artist. She was a master in creating through time, toil and patience by hand unique, precise, multi-colored, geometrically patterned “pysanky” - Slavic Easter Eggs. She was also very accomplished in magnificent, intricate holiday folk embroidery. Christine’s family is most grateful to all of her friends from Halstead Avenue: Janet, Patty, Stacia and Adam, who cared for her for many years and for the kindness shown to her by Joseph C. Smith and Maria, Peter and Bart Popek. Heartfelt thanks to the doctors especially Andrew S. Lubas MD, nurses, medical personnel and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, NJ for their extraordinary care and kindness. Funeral arrangements for Christine A. Scserbak are entrusted to the Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave., Wallington, NJ. Viewing 9:00 am, Friday, October 2, 2020, followed by a Byzantine Rite Committal Service at 11:00am with burial in the family plot at Saint Michael’s Cemetery, 120 Saddle River Road, South Hackensack, New Jersey.
