Obituary

Ex Fire Chief David Anthony Pinto of Wallington, after a heroic fight against COVID-19, entered eternal life on May 17th, 2020; he was 70. David was born in Jersey City, on April 25th, 1950 to Anthony and Rose (Denucci) Pinto. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara A. Rose, on November 24th, 1973 at Our Lady of Victories in Jersey City, NJ. Shortly after the new couple married, they moved to East Rutherford prior to settling in Wallington in 1976. Dave was very excited to now have a home and a piece of property where he could have a garden and maintain the landscape. He was a graduate of St. Peter's College, and for over 39 years he had worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2005. Dave tirelessly served his beloved community of Wallington. He joined the Park Row Hose Co. #3 in 1977, he was the Sgt. at Arms 1980 - 1982, Vice President 1986 -1995, President 1987 & 1996, Trustee in 2002, Lieutenant 1992 & 1993, Captain in 1994, Asst. Chief 1999, Deputy Chief 2000, Chief of Department 2001, and a Life Member of Hose Co. 3. He also served on various committees including the Hose Co. #3 60th, 75th and 85th Anniversary Committees. In 1980 Dave had joined the Emergency Squad, serving as Vice President in 1983, President from 1984-1986, Lieutenant 1986 and 1989, Captain in 1987, Secretary 1991-2001, he was also on the Squad's 50th and 75th Anniversary Committees, as well as the Truck Committees in 1990 and 1997. In addition to Dave being a life member, he was also a member of the W.F.D Comic Team, Holiday Parade Committee, Fire Dept Secretary 2012 to Present, Memorial Banquet Committees, Life Member of the NJ State Firemen's Association, NJ State Exempt Firemen's Association, South Bergen Fire Chiefs Association, Wallington Exempt Firemen's Association, Crew Mutual Aid Chiefs Association, W.F.D. Golden Horns Club and the Six County Firemen's Association of Pennsylvania. If that wasn't enough, he also served as a member of the Wallington Board of Education from December 1995 to April of 2006, May of 2011 to August of 2019. He served as Board President 2001-2003, 2017-2019 and Vice President 1999-2001, 2016. Dave was currently working for the Emergency Medical Services in the Meadowlands as an EMT, where he had been exposed to the COVID virus. In his free time, and when he wasn't working in the yard, Dave could be found playing Bingo on Tuesday's or shopping. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining, but nothing was more important to Dave than his beloved wife Barbara of 46 years, daddy's little girl Nicole Pinto and his beloved son David and his wife Yvette. He is also survived by his three beloved grandchildren, David Pinto, Tyler Yepes and Christian Yepes. He is also survived by his dear sister Jane and her husband Edd Fitzgerald.

To the Pinto Family,
Although we didn't know each other very well, I would like to extend my deepest condolences for your loss. I remember feeling the warmth and friendliness from both Dave & Barbara when we occasionally bumped into each other. My deepest memories are that of my daughter Melissa ALWAYS speaking about the "The Pintos" with the highest regard. I can actually say that she loved you all. I hope this lets you know that your kindness, caring and genuine warmth extends much further than you may have ever though it would and I wish you all Peace & Healing
