Jerry had the Irish “Gift of Gab” and made friends easily from all walks of life. He loved the St Patrick’s Day Parade and regularly took the day off to travel into NY City to celebrate. Jerry told the story that he had befriended several gentlemen at the Parade who he described as hailing from the “Old Sod”. Year after year, he would religiously meet them and watch the marchers from a premium viewing spot, naturally, across from St Patrick’s Cathedral. Jerry routinely capped-off the Day’s festivities with a corn beef and cabbage dinner washed down with an Irish Coffee (or two) at Neary’s in the City. Neary’s coincidentally opened on St Patrick’s Day in 1967 and is affectionately known around town as the “Irish 21 Club”. Leave it to Jerry to have discovered such a legendary gem!
