Obituary for Maria Hrebeniuk

Maria Hrebeniuk of Wallington, NJ, entered eternal life on June 12th, 2023, she was 98. Maria entered this life on January 24th, 1925 to Jacob and Anna Kobez, in Kaitanivka, Cherkazy Oblast, Ukraine. Maria was truly a remarkable and strong woman, who's faith led her in all she did throughout her life; especially during the tumultuous horrors of WWII. Maria had been orphaned at a young age, and had survived the forced labor camps of Nazi Germany, and towards the end of the war, met her husband Ivan Hrebeniuk, and they were married in 1946. Together, they embarked on a new life, coming to the United States in 1949 with their two young sons, Walter and Boris. They had lived in Passaic, and in 1969 moved to Wallington. Maria had been one of the founding members of her beloved church, St Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Clifton, where she spent countless hours in support and growth of the parish community. Maria had worked for Revlon, in Edison, New Jersey, for over 33 years, retiring in 1991. Maria was a dedicated gardener; always growing what should be called prize winning tomatoes. She was known by her family and friends as a "chatter-box", she loved kibitzing about current events, and what was new in her family's lives. She had also been an accomplished embroiderer, enjoyed sewing and baking. Maria is survived by her beloved sons Boris and his wife Terrie Hrebeniuk of Goldsboro, NC; Victor Hrebeniuk of Wallington, New Jersey; she was predeceased by her son Walter, and is survived by her daughter in law Maryann Hrebeniuk. She is also predeceased by her dear husband Ivan, her beloved grandsons, Eric, Victor and John. Maria is survived by her devoted granddaughters, Lisa, Amy and Tracy; and her cherished great-grandchildren Allie, Kate, Ashley, Teddy, Caroline, Derik and Madison. Visitation will be held Friday evening, June 16th 7-9pm, Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Avenue; Wallington, New Jersey. A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 17th, 10am, St Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 81 Washington Ave, Clifton, NJ 07011. Maria will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Ivan at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, 255 Main Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey.
