Obituary for Robert Gerard Parks Jr.

Robert Gerard Parks, Jr., entered eternal life on August 15th, 2018, he was 78. Robert was born in Manhattan, New York on March 31, 1940 to Robert Sr. and Mary (Ahearn) Parks. He was raised in Manhattan and moved to Queens Village after he was married. He was married to the love of his life, Gertrude "Sabina" Aquinas, on July 13th, 1968 at Corpus Christie Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan, they just celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Robert and Sabina made Queens Village their home for many years, prior to moving to Long Beach Island in early 2000. They then spent some time living in Apex, North Carolina, prior to moving to Wallington, NJ in 2017. Robert was a proud graduate of Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, followed by post graduate work at Fordham University in the Bronx, where he earned his Masters in Political Science. Robert's career spanned over thirty years as a Public School Teacher in the Bronx, before retiring in 1995. He had spent many years at Wadleigh School and the Roberto Clemente School of Performing Arts. He had taught Social Studies and American History. Robert loved music, especially Classical and Jazz, and could often be found playing the drums. Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife Sabina, his beloved children Sean and his wife Sonya, his son Chris and his wife Madeline and his daughter Victoria and her husband Kevin Russell. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Michael, Alexandra, Victoria, Nora Faith and Giovanna, and one sister and her husband Nancy and Peter O'Neil. Robert was predeceased by his sister Celeste Parks and his dear uncle, The Reverend Monsignor Joseph Parks of the Brooklyn Diocese. There will be no public visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM, Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 127 Paterson Avenue, Wallington, New Jersey 07057, where family and friends will gather. Robert will be laid to rest immediately following at St. Michael's Cemetery, 120 Saddle River Road, South Hackensack, NJ. The family has requested contributions in lieu of flowers to the Compassionate Care Hospice, http://www.cchfoundation.net/ who's staff has been an integral part of Robert's care and a source of comfort for his family for over the past year.
