William Otto "Bill"  Werner
William Werner, 73, of Carolina Shores passed away suddenly on November 19th, 2016. Bill was born in 1943 in Passaic, NJ to Adel and William Werner. He graduated high school in Lodi, NJ and served his country by joining the Army shortly after graduation serving most of his three year hitch at Fort Bragg, NC. He married Beverly, whom he met in high school in 1965 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. After many years of employment with the Auto Rental Industry, Bill decided to change careers. Having enjoyed volunteering with the local EMS Service and fire department he trained and worked as a paramedic in New Jersey for over twenty-five years. A proud member of the Wallington Fire Department Park Row Hose Co. 3 from 1974 - 2006. He served as Vice President in 1976 and as President in 1977 and 1984. He had also served as a Trustee in 1985, Lieutenant in 1978 and Captain in 1982 and 1983, Assistant Chief in 1993 and Deputy Chief in 1994, and Chief of the Department in 1995. Bill as a delegate of Wallington Firemens Relief Association 1984 - 1991 and a delegate of the the NJ and NY Firemens Assoc 1979 - 1984. He had been a member of the 60th and 75th Anniversary Committee of Hose Co. 3, member of Truck Committee of Hose Co. 3 in 1985, and a life member of Hose Company 3 in 1999. Bill had been a member of Wallington Emergency Squat 1979 - 1988, Vice President and President of Emergency Squad, member of the 50th Anniversary Committee of Emergency Squad and a Life Member of the Wallington Ambulance Corps. He had been a Past Captain of Ambulance Corps, Past President and Treasurer of the Ambulance Corps and a Past Officer of the the 24th District of NJ First Aid Council. He was a life member of South Bergen Fire Chief's Association, NJ State Exempt Firemens Association, NJ State Firemens Association and member of NJ State Fire Chiefs Association, C.R.E.W. Fire Chiefs Association, Wallington Exempt Firemens Association, NY State Fire Chiefs Association, Six County Firemens Association of Pennsylvania, Golden Horns Ex Chiefs Club of Wallington and a Member of the Wallington Auxiliary Firemens Association. Bill had also been a former member for the Borough of Wallington Planning Board and Community Development Representative. Bill and Beverly moved to Carolina Shores, NC, in 2012. Bill joined the Calabash Fire Department and served proudly despite losing a leg to the complications of diabetes several years ago. He also volunteered with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 26, 2016, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Shallotte, North Carolina, where he was an active member and served on the church council. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Bill will come home to New Jersey with honors on Monday, November 28th. Visiting Tuesday, November 29th, 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave, Wallington, New Jersey. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 30th, 10am, at Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 750 Passaic Street, Clifton, NJ 07012.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Wallington Fire Department Hose Company No. 3.
