Bronislaw Stolarz, Retired Bakery Owner
Bronislaw Stolarz, a retired Bakery Owner, died of cancer on October 16, 2014 at his home in Wallington, New Jersey. He was 92 years old.
Mr. Stolarz was born in Lysakowek, Poland, on December 5, 1921, the son of Franciszka Sudol and Jan Stolarz, one of eight children. His siblings, Joseph Stolarz, Leona (Stolarz) Gill, Sophie (Stolarz) Gemski, Henry Szwed, Stanley Szwed and Jan Szwed, have predeceased him.
During the German occupation of Poland Mr. Stolarz hid out in the forests eluding German efforts to transport him, and others, to the labor camps in Germany. On one occasions in 1942 he was captured, but managed to escape prior to transport to Germany.
Mr. Stolarz was trained as an elementary teacher in Nisko Poland, and by 1959 attained the position of Principal of the local Elementary Grammar School in the village of Gwozdziec, Poland.
On April 10, 1959, Mr. Stolarz, together with his wife Teofila Danuta Stolarz, and his two children, John and Mary, emigrated to the United States, settling in Passaic, New Jersey, where he joined his sisters Leona Gill and Sophie Gemski, and his brother, Joseph Stolarz.
In 1961 Mr. Stolarz, and his wife, purchased Bilach’s Bakery on Eighth Street in Passaic, New Jersey and renamed it Stolarz’s Bakery. His wife, Teofila Danuta handled the retail bakery, while Mr. Stolarz expanded the wholesale part of the business, delivering baked goods to grocery stores and restaurants not only in Passaic, but also in Wallington, Clifton, Garfield, and East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Mr. Stolarz was an active participant in the local Polish community. He became a teacher of Polish subjects at Adam Mickiewicz Polish School in Passaic, New Jersey, and was also appointed its Principal.
His wife, Teofila Danuta Stolarz passed away on February 27, 2004 and Mr. Stolarz retired from the bakery business in 2006.
On December 20, 2006, Mr. Stolarz married Jozefa Gajewska Sasiela.
He is survived by his wife, Jozefa Stolarz, his son, John B. Stolarz of Towson, Maryland, his daughter, Mary Hankala, of Rzeszow, Poland, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Avenue, Wallington, NJ 07057 on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:00 am, at Holy Rosary R.C. Church, 6 Wall Street, Passaic, NJ 07055. Interment will follow the service at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, PA.
